SAR Academy seeks a Special Education Coordinator to serve as Dir. of Pisgah, our inclusion program. The Pisgah Dir. will have an in-depth & detailed understanding of the needs, strengths & challenges of each student academically & socially/emotionally & make sure that Pisgah’s multidisciplinary consultative approach ensures that our interventions are integrated, collaboration is ongoing & outcome data is shared consistently.
About Pisgah: The SAR inclusion program serves 5-10 students per grade level in K through Grade 5, embedded within a regular classroom. Each group is supported by a special ed teacher who functions as the central organizer of each student’s overall plan & plays an important collaborative role with other teachers & support team. Pisgah is committed to an individualized approach to learning disabilities, meaning that in each situation, an individualized educational plan is built that targets areas of challenge & builds areas of strength. Pisgah is committed to understanding & treating hidden disabilities that interfere with academic growth by providing goal-directed, explicit instruction in the areas that are most needed, including language development, emotional regulation, peer relationships & executive functioning:
Coordinate Special Ed Services for Gr. K-5
Reports to the ELC & LS Principals
Ensure compliance with local, state & federal regulations pertaining to the education of students with special needs – primary liaison between the DOE & school personnel
Hire, train & oversee program staff, ensuring collaboration & integrated models of support
Support the development of students’ goals & curriculum development, collect reports for students in preparation for parent & Board of Education meetings, ensure communication with parents
Qualifications:
Effective supervisor utilizing open communication with organizational, problem solving & collaborative skills
Develop, implement, & coordinate curriculum, multidisciplinary programming & community relationships
Build connections with children & develop atmosphere of mutual respect
Mission-aligned understanding of Special Education & NY State & Federal Regulations
Demonstrates a relentless pursuit to promote excellence in student achievement & conduct
Maintains & exemplifies culture of high expectations & accountability for scholarly & professional conduct
Requirements: NYS Special Education Certification, Masters Degree in Special Education or related field, Prior exp pref
